DELTA SHELTER, Vacation House in venice

TU DEFT, MArch, 1st Year, Semester 2

Project Description:

The Project is located in Madonna del Monte, a small abandoned island near Venice. The task for this project was to design a vacation family-home complex.  A historic building located on the island, the possibility of flooding and the constant change of the islands shape due to tides, are factors that had to be considered during the design process.

Due to the hard accessibility of the island, the building's construction flexibility was one of the main design strategies. Therefore my design consists of 5 different volumes, built out of shipping container with timber cladding finishing. The design will be suspended from the ground, on a steel structure, in order to protect it from the flooding and the tides.

Four of the volumes are family sleeping rooms, and a larger volume houses communal areas, such as the kitchen, dining room and living room. A balcony-walkway on the "front"- south side joins all the volumes and also provides sun-shading to the buildings. The movable mesh shading system, provides the flexibility to its users to readjust the panels depending on their needs.
